Most people say that they spawn within a fortnight and it seems pretty true. My Angels spawned again! After the last batch, i was expecting another spawn pretty soon. I then cuaght both of the angels into my garage tank and gave it a tube to have the eggs on. The tank though, used to have residense of platies, guppies, swordtails and mollies. I had to buy an extra seperator to continue. Next, i had to catch all the fish from one side to another to clear a side for the angels. The angels seemede very satisfied after that. I caught some fat, chubby earth worms, washed them and offered it to the angels. They were gladly eating their food. I personally think that healthy food and diet helps trigger their breeding activity. And it worked!
Next day, they were already showing signs of breeding. Some fish who had slipped through the otherside were nipped and forced back. After two more days, they started to lay there eggs. Too bad i had to go to school and i missed it!
When i went home and checked on them, there it was. The eggs. They were yellowish green and was transparent. There were some white ones, which were infertile. The majority though was all alive.
I didn't really like the male's attitude. He was nipping vigorously at the eggs. I read that angels do nip at the eggs to clean the fungi of them, but my male was really aggresive. I even saw the female gently trying to stop him. I watched for a while just incase he was just protecting the eggs. Then i saw it. He plucked one of the eggs out and it fell right down to the bottom of the tank. He then came down with it and plucked it into his mouth. Then he went up to get more. I was sure he was being a jerk now. I spun around to get the net before he gets to more.
Grabbing the net, i shielded the eggs from the male. The female was scared and from a mother's instinct, went to the eggs and protected them from me! I read that if angels get scared and threatened, they would eat their own eggs so that you can't eat them. Great...Now i converted the mother into a berserk. She was trying to eat the eggs from me now.
I caught the male out and next, the female. The female didnt seem too happy on the otherside of the tank. I felt sorry for the mother, though i had to keep them away from the eggs now. Then i took the tube away from the tank and put it in a small seperate tank.

Today, their tails had already started wriggling. They looked so cute! The dead eggs and increased but the successful rate outnumbered the dead greatly. When their tails start to wriggle, it means they arent as vulnerable to the fungi that existed on the dead eggs. I had to hatch the brine shrimp in order to get ready for them.

The previous batch, however was a complete fail. Firstly, they had not as much eggs. Secondly, the male hadn't spread the sperm properly. Thirdly, I didn't really know how to raise the fry though i am trying. Ive already bought a book which specializes on angelfish breeding and raising. Ive also gone on a couple of websites. I think i fed the brine shrimp too quickly which may have killed some of the fry. Ten were successfully free swimming but they died off and only one remains now. A terrible shame really. Though, I ought to think of it as an experiment and when i get enough experience, these things would be sinch and ill be righting my own books.

Hi! Wow, I love your dedication to fish! My name is India and I have two fish, a comet and a black moor, terrible combination. :fish: I love them dearly but I haven't really been dedicated to making them happy until recently. Ie they use to live in a bowl, I only fed them fish flakes, etc etc; now they live in a huge tank, they enjoy lettuce and peas, I added some plants to the tank :) They're so cute, my black moor loves playing with the current from the filter! :aww:
I was wondering if I asked you a few questions you could answer them? I have loads of time off because I just finished school and uni doesn't start till march and I'd like to try my hand at breeding, I just don't really know where to start and I have researched books and the internet but I'd like to get a personal opinion
If you're up for it let me know :)

Thanks fish loving deviant!

Hi!

So you are keeping goldfish huh?
I have to confess though, i don't really keep goldfish but i could answer some of your questions.

My opinion is that if you arent as experienced, keep some lower level fish. Goldfish is a easy fish to keep, but not so easy at breeding. I'd prefer to start on guppies. They are pretty cheap and is VERY VERY easy to breed. Guppies are also very beautiful and Im still really astonished of the colour strains that come up while breeding them. Guppies were my starting point and i eventually expanded to the rest of the freshwater fish.

You can ask as many questions you want and ill try my best to answer most of them^^
Thanks!

Awesome thanks!

I recently took my fish to the pet store and was told I have two girls which complicates things a bit lol.

Probably my biggest question is: is it best to breed same type fish or different breed fish?

What are some general things to do to aid in producing the love? :giggle:

Thanks for your help!

Sry i hadnt gone onto DA for a while so i hadnt answered you.

what do you mean breed different type of fish?

Depending on which fish you are breeding, you would need to consider the size of the tank, where they breed on and what type of water conditions and temperature they require. Other than that, they will start loving each other.
